NMC advises medical colleges to get AISHE code

The Department of Higher Education launched the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2011 under the Central Sector Scheme of Higher Education Statistics and Public Information Systems (HESPIS). Now, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked all the medical colleges and institutions to mandatorily register and get the AISHE code and furnish compliance in this regard to NMC.

The official notification reads, "All medical colleges/institutions are requested to mandatorily register and get the AISHE code, and furnish compliance in this regard to this Commission, at the earliest. For any help in this regard, the concerned officers/in-charge of institutions can contact Shri R Rajesh, Deputy Director General, Department of Higher Education in the email ID r.rajesh@gov.in."

About AISHE

It is a web-based annual survey run through a dedicated government's web portal (http://aishe.gov.in/). The purpose of the survey is to create a robust database of the educational institutions providing higher education in India. The coverage of AISHE includes all tertiary-level educational institutions, including those engaged in imparting medical and nursing education.

The list of institutions registered in the AISHE is used widely by Central Ministries and State Governments for checking the genuineness of student applications in a different schemes. Moreover, it is used by the National Scholarships Portal where online application and processing of scholarships of different ministries are done, after which scholarships are sent through DBT mode to the students after proper online verification, de-duplication, etc.
