NMC extends application submission deadline for new MBBS courses

National Medical Commission has extended the application submission deadline for MBBS courses including starting of new medical colleges and the increase of seats.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice to notify about the extension of the last date of receipt of applications for new undergraduate MBBS courses till August 31, 2022.

The application deadline is extended for starting new medical colleges, an increase of seats and renewal of courses pending recognitions for the academic year 2023-24. Earlier the deadline was August 10, 2022. 

The official notification reads, "After due consideration, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of National Medical Commission hereby extends the date and time for receipt of the applications up to August 31, 2022."

All concerned are requested to submit their applications with Essentiality Certificate, consent of Affiliation (CoA) in prescribed proforma, and details of the hospital. 

In March this year, NMC said that medical colleges applying for an increase in MBBS seats should have received LOP and run the one batch of MBBS to its completion. The medical colleges should also have received recognition, it added.

After the pandemic, the Central and state governments are working toward starting new medical colleges and adding more MBBS seats in the country. Recently, Ukraine and China returned medical students have also highlighted the issue of not having adequate medical seats in the country and the need to increase medical colleges and seats to upgrade the healthcare infrastructure with more and better-trained healthcare professionals.
