NMC's gentle reminder on submission of suicide, working hours reports of medicos
NMC has issued a gentle reminder to the medical colleges about the submission of details of suicide, resignation and working hours of medical students.
Earlier, the National Medical Commission (NMC) asked medical colleges to submit a detailed report of the number of students who have committed suicide during the last 5 years, their resignation and the working hours of medicos. Now, the commission has issued a gentle reminder on the same and said that if the reports are not submitted by November 25, 2022, NMC may take action.
The official notification reads, "there are some colleges who have not submitted their reports regarding suicide, resignation, and working hours of medical students. It is, therefore, requested that all those colleges which have not submitted the report yet may submit the same by November 25, 2022, failing which NMC may take action as per section 18(5) of the National Medical Commission (Prevention & Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges & Institutions) Regulation 2021. Those colleges who had already submitted their reports are requested to not send them again."
NMC's Anti-Ragging Committee had a meeting on September 27 where it reviewed the ragging complaints received from the medical students/parents of the medical students and decided to collect the data on suicide, resignation and all the things which could lead to suicidal tendencies in the medical students.
"Although all incidents of suicide and suicidal tendency are not linked to ragging in many cases the incidents of suicide have been linked to ragging. Therefore, the committee has decided that all the colleges should submit these information for the last five years," said the NMC's notification.
