NMC validates FMGs internship on or before Oct 21, 2022, as one time measure
Internships by Foreign Medical Graduates in approved colleges as per the old MCI list which is done or started on or before October 21, 2022, will be considered valid, stated the National Medical Commission.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice for the validation of internships for Foreign Medical Graduates.
The official notification said that the commission has received various requests/representations regarding internships done by Foreign Medical Graduates in approved colleges/hospitals/institutes according to the old MCI list after the publication and coming into force of NMC’s Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) Regulations, 2021 on November 18, 2021.
“The matter was also considered in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and it was decided with the approval of a Competent Authority to validate the internship of students who took admission in approved colleges/hospitals/institutes according to old MCI list until October 21, 2022, i.e. the date of publishing of new list by NMC. The same has been communicated to NMC vide letter no. V.11025/458/2022-MEP (Part 1) dated December 27, 2022,” reads NMC’s notification.
“Accordingly Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship done/started by Foreign Medical Graduates in approved colleges/ hospitals/ institutes according to the old MCI list on or before October 21, 2022, shall be considered valid by the National Medical Commission, only as a one-time measure. Any internship started in non-teaching hospitals beyond October 21, 2022, shall be invalid,” added the notification.
In November last year, foreign medical graduates protested against NMC’s decision that the FMGs returned from China and Ukraine need to complete CRMI for two years instead of the standard one year. NMC said that this decision was taken to make up for the loss of clinical training.
