NMC withdraws GMER 2023 guidelines on MBBS admissions
National Medical Commission has withdrawn new guidelines on the CBME curriculum, admission of disabled students, and Format for submission of information regarding admission to a medical college.
National Medical Commission has issued a circular to inform the withdrawal of guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulation 2023.
"It is informed that the Circular of even number dated 12.06.2023 thereby issuing guidelines under Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 stands "WITHDRAWN AND CANCELLED" with immediate effect," reads NMC's statement.
The new guidelines published in the Gazette of India vide notification on June 2 said on the MBBS course - CBMF Curriculum, Manpower Requirement for Research Facilities in a Medical College, Family Adoption Program Admission of students under "Disability Category" in MBBS Course, and Format for submission of information regarding admission to a medical college.
According to the then notice, all previous notifications had been declared void and superseded by the new GMER guidelines. “These new guidelines shall be applicable to all the admission made in MBBS course in a medical college in the academic year 2023-24,” the notice said.
NMC has also changed the minimum age criteria for NEET aspirants and fixed January 31 of the year of admission as the cut-off date for completion of 17 years instead of December 31, 2023.
Under the GMER-23, the commission also proposed common counselling for admission to medical graduate courses in India.
"Without prejudice to anything stated in the present Regulations or other NMC Regulations, there shall be common counselling for admission to graduate courses in medicine for all Medical Institutions in India based on the merit list of the NEET-UG," said NMC.
