PM Modi to lay foundation stone of Navsari medical college in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lay the foundation stone of the new Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society in the Navsari district of Gujarat.
Gujarat is on a spree to add more medical colleges. While the state is going to have five more medical colleges from the next academic session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the new Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) today in the Navsari district of Gujarat.
"This medical college will boost healthcare infrastructure and benefit the population of one crore residing in Navsari and the surrounding five districts. We will complete this project by 2024. We are equipping Government hospitals in the state with world class technology and robust healthcare facilities," said Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, as reported by TOI.
"This improved medical infrastructure will also enable the state to become a Medical Tourism destination in the future," he added.
About GMERS in Navsari
The new medical college will be spread over an area of 20 acres and will be constructed at a cost of INR 542.50 crore. Moreover, the Gujarat government will spend nearly INR 74 crore to provide medical instruments, equipment and other hardware.
Additional chief secretary Manoj Agarwal said, "This medical college has been developed as a Tertiary Care Hospital with a facility of 446 beds. The entire building will be equipped with modern facilities which include seven major operation theatres, nine minor operation theatres, seven intensive care units, six dedicated ICU beds of a total of 30 beds with a state-of-the-art emergency medical department for IPD along with an OPD facility for almost all diseases; blood bank with component separation facilities, pharmacy, clinical laboratories, 26 general wards and 13 OPDs."
