To facilitate comprehensive care to cancer patients, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata on 7th January 2022 through a video conferencing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly said on many platforms his government's intention to strengthen the health care infrastructure of the country. The Central government is working to provide a minimum of one medical college at each district level and more AIIMS in the country. The latest is, he will inaugurate the second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata on 7th January 2022 at 1 pm through video conferencing.

The first campus of CNCI was facing a heavy load of cancer patients and there was a need for the second campus, as stated in the official statement.

The second campus has been built at an expense of INR 530 crores. The Central and state government have contributed to the ratio of 75:25. The Union government has contributed INR 400 crores and the rest of the INR 130 crores is contributed by the state government. 

The official statement reads, "The campus is a 460 bedded comprehensive cancer centre unit with cutting edge infrastructure for cancer diagnosis, staging, treatment and care. The campus is equipped with modern facilities like Nuclear Medicine (PET), 3.0 Tesla MRI, 128 slice CT scanner, Radionuclide therapy unit, endoscopy suite, modern brachytherapy units etc. The campus will also work as an advanced cancer research facility and will provide comprehensive care to cancer patients especially those from Eastern and North-Eastern parts of the country."
