After the government authorized the use of MS/MD scores for SR counselling of the 2021 batch (who had recently completed their MBBS), resident doctor associations protested the decision and demanded that the new rule be withdrawn immediately and that the government instead use NEET PG exam scores.

Medical Education in Rajasthan

Rajasthan resident doctors are demanding the senior resident counselling process based on NEET PG scores. Several stakeholders, including medicos, recently met with the Secretary of the Medical Education Department to discuss Senior Resident Counselling 2025 and offered their requests, which included SR counseling based on NEET PG results.

After the government issued an order to use MS/MD scores for senior resident counselling of the 2021 batch who had recently completed their MBBS, resident doctor associations such as the Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) and the United Doctors Front (UDF Rajasthan) demanded that the new rule be immediately revoked and that NEET PG 2021 scores be used for senior resident counselling, citing that it is the most fair and transparent method.

The resident doctors further emphasized that NEET PG is a standardized national-level entrance exam administered under identical settings, ensuring a fair and objective evaluation of merit calculation, as reported by Medical Dialogues.

It objectively evaluates candidates' knowledge and scores them equitably. In contrast to MD/MS exams, which include subjective assessment, MCQs are used in the NEET PG exam, hence eliminating human intervention. Furthermore, Rajasthan has used NEET PG grades for SR counseling since 2021, making it an acceptable and fair standard.

Further, the associations cited that the abrupt change to MD/MS scores during counseling is arbitrary, unjust, and immoral. Candidates who appeared for NEET PG 2021 expected their scores to be used for SR counseling, as per the usual process.
