Flights under Operation Ganga are being prepared to bring them home

Indian students who were stranded in the eastern part of war-torn Ukraine, Sumy have been successfully moved to the western part. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson shared the information of safely evacuating Indian students out of Sumy.

Over 700 Indian students were struck in Sumy, one of the worst-hit regions of Ukraine. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi sharing the safe evacuation movement of Indian students wrote on Twitter: “Happy to inform that we have been able to move out all Indian students from Sumy.”

Bagchi said that they are currently en route to Poltava, from where they will board trains to western Ukraine. “Flights under Operation Ganga are being prepared to bring them home,” he said.

The government of India has been focusing on the evacuation of Indians from the Eastern part of Ukraine particularly Pisochin and Sumy. More than 700 Indian students living in bunkers in Sumy, were unable to get out.

Students have been sharing their ordeal of living inside bunkers in Sumy, the city's electricity, heating and water systems have shut down owing to continuous Russian shelling.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and sought his support in the evacuation of Indian students stuck in northeastern Ukraine's Sumy city. Modi sought continued support from the government of Ukraine in ongoing efforts for the evacuation of Indian nationals from Sumy. He also spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin urging him to speak with his Ukrainian counterpart.

Through various flights, India has successfully evacuated over 20,000 Indian nations from Ukraine.
