SGPGIMS, Lucknow to start tele ICUs from December linked to other medical colleges
SGPGIMS, Lucknow is all set to start the telemedicine ICUs from December across 75 districts of UP.
The telemedicine Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) Lucknow is getting started on the order of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath. The aim is to provide SGPGIMS like treatment while getting treated in the medical colleges of other districts of the state. It will be beneficial in treating serious diseases.
To strengthen the quality of medical treatment in UP, SGPGIMS, Lucknow will start the first and largest tele ICUs from December across 75 districts of UP. This tele ICU network will be linked to other medical colleges in different districts of UP. The ICU units of six medical colleges in UP will be connected to the tele ICUs of SGPGIMS as confirmed by the Director of PGI, Radhakrishna Dhiman.
The doctors of medical colleges in other districts will get online training from the experts' team of PGI, Lucknow.
Radhakrishna Dhiman said through a release, "In the first phase, around 200 ICU beds from six medical colleges will be connected to PGI. In which 60 beds will be from PGI, 40 beds from Gorakhpur and 20 beds from other medical colleges. Dr. Dhiman informed that medical colleges of Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, Jhansi and Agra will be connected with Tele ICU of PGI. Soon this facility will be expanded to 75 districts."
The release also said that the chief minister has also directed to connect ICUs of other medical colleges in different districts of UP to tele ICUs of PGI so that Covid-19 patients and other serious patients can be sent to PGI in medical colleges.
The release also mentioned that during the first wave of coronavirus in the state, the telemedicine facility at PGI helped doctors form other medical colleges to treat Covid-19 patients. During this period when OPD services were closed, the general patients were also treated by connecting directly to this telehealth facility.
Through the tele ICUs facility, PGI experts will also keep a close watch on serious patients at other medical colleges of the state especially the ones on the ventilators and patients with complex operations.
