Supreme Court Orders AIIMS to Postpone INI CET 2021 Exam by One Month
Supreme Court has ordered AIIMS to postpone INI CET July session as candidates are doing covid duties. The top court has asked to defer INI CET 2021 date by one month.
The Supreme Court on Friday, June 11, 2021, directed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to postpone INI CET 2021 July session by one month. While hearing petitions for the postponement of INI CET 2021 exam, the Apex Court said that the decision to conduct the exam on June 16 is arbitrary as candidates have not been given enough time for the preparation.
Two petitions were filed in the top court, one by a group of 23 MBBS doctors and the other by Indian Medical Associations. Both the petitions had challenged the conduct of INI CET 2021 exam. Hearing the pleas, a Division Bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice MR Shah said that many of the candidates are doing covid duties and are in remote areas. They have no time for exam preparation. "These doctors will be appearing in the exam and they do not have time for preparing it because of COVID duty. Why do not postpone the exam by a month,” the bench said.
INI CET 2021 exam is scheduled to be held on June 18, 2021 in online mode at different centres across the country. Reportedly, AIIMS initially tried to oppose the postponement of the exam date, giving the reason that it will create the scarcity of doctors in an unprecedented situation. AIIMS also informed the court that if doctors face issues, they can appear in the next session in November. Later, AIIMS gave in and left it to court to take the final call.
"If you do not postpone, we will pass orders," the top court said. Candidates have been opposing the move of AIIMS to conduct INI CET 2021 exam on a short duration of around 18-20 days. They say that exam preparation can’t be done on small time duration. Moreover, they are doing covid duties in different parts which hardly gives them time to focus on INI CET 2021 exam. Through various social media platforms, students have requested the exam conducting body to further postpone the exam. INI CET which stands for the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test is conducted for providing admission into PG courses such as Masters of Surgery (MS), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Dental Surgery (MDS), Doctorate of Medicine (DM), and Master of Chirurgie (MCh) offered by eight AIIMS including AIIMS Delhi, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh, and NIMHANS Bengaluru, JIPMER Puducherry and PGI Chandigarh. AIIMS Delhi conducts the exam twice a year, one in November and the other in July, in online mode.
