The state cabinet has approved the transfer of assets and manpower under the health department to the medical education department for starting medical colleges in several districts including Amethi, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Gonda, Chandauli, Pilibhit, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur, Sultanpur and Sonbhadra.

So, the hospitals, referral hospitals and manpower working at these hospitals will now be part of the medical colleges for a period of three years and their attachment can be extended up to 5 years.

Once transferred to the medical education department, the manpower, including nurses and ward boys, will get their salaries from the medical education department and will also be provided pay protection, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The decision has been taken to improve clinical facilities in all the districts in the state and also to get more MBBS and speciality doctors for the state.

As part of this initiative, several district hospitals are being attached to the new medical colleges. These new upcoming medical colleges are coming up under the establishment of new medical colleges with existing district/referral hospitals schemes supported by the Centre. The state government is at present working on “one district, one medical college” programme.
