Meghalaya government to waive 50 per cent of the tuition fees of students, whose families were affected by the lockdown, Deputy Chief Minister announced.

The Meghalaya government has announced that it has decided to waive off 50 per cent of the tuition fees of students, whose families were affected during the coronavirus lockdown. 

As per media reports, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that this coronavirus lockdown has affected many businesses and families. Keeping that in mind, the government has decided to help those students whose family income was effected due to lockdown by waiving off 50 per cent of their fees.

The decision will be effective for the months of April, May and June in all government-aided, deficit pattern and deficit schools, he said.

Tynsong said private schools, those run by missionaries or other individuals will not collect any other fees except tuition fees from students for these three months.

“If students have already paid the fees, it will be adjusted accordingly,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBOSE) conducted examinations for the first of the four remaining papers of MBOSE HSSLC across the state in different examination centres on June 8, 2020. The examination for Statistics was held on Monday, while Physical Education and Western Music will be conducted on Tuesday and Mathematics will be held on Wednesday.

The MBOSE Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate exam was earlier postponed due to coronavirus outbreak in the country. 

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also released important guidelines to be followed by the students, teachers and staff while appearing for pending board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12. Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had recently announced that the CBSE will declare CBSE 10th Result 2020 and CBSE 12th Result 2020 by August 15. This is the first time, that the Board will be announcing the Class 10 Results and Class 12 Result by mid-August.
