21 new Sainik Schools have been approved by the Ministry of Defence in partnership mode from the academic years 2022-2023.
Under the government's initiative of establishing 100 new Sainik Schools across the country, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has approved 21 new Sainik Schools in alliance with NGOs, private schools or state governments.
Reportedly, these 21 new Sainik Schools will be distinct from the existing Sainik Schools and will be set up in the initial round of setting up the 100 new Sainik Schools in partnership mode.
The initiative to set up 100 new Sainik Schools has been taken with the aim to offer quality education for the students in line with the National Education Policy(NEP) and also to provide the students with better career opportunities including joining defence services.
21 new Sainik Schools Details
Out of these 21, 17 new Sainik Schools are Brownfield running schools, whereas the 4 remaining schools are Greenfield schools and these schools are to be operational shortly, as reported by India Today.
A total of 12 of these Sainik Schools went to NGOs, trusts or societies. Moreover, 6 private schools and 3 state-government-owned schools also found their place on the list.
Entry to start from Class 6 level only
The entry to the new Sainik School pattern in these schools will be at the Class 6 level only. Following are the guidelines for admission:
A minimum of 40% intake in Class 6 will be from candidates who have qualified for the All-India Sainik School Entrance Examination conducted by NTA through E-Counselling.
Up to 60% intake will be from students enrolled in the same school and interested in taking admission under this vertical of new Sainik Schools through a qualifying test, notification for which will be issued separately.
