Panjab University VC gets nod to exercise all syndicate powers
It was decided to authorize the Vice-Chancellor to constitute any committee, which may frame these policies as early as possible so that these can be debated and discussed for the final approval and implementation in the best academic interest of university at his level.

Panjab University (PU) Senate has given authority to the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar to exercise all powers of the Syndicate until it comes into place. The decision was taken unanimously by the House during a senate meeting that was conducted online. The decision was supported by most of the members, including some of the senior officials like Prof Kuldeep Agnihotri, former Chandigarh MP and Additional Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain and Prof HS Bedi.
During the meeting, it was decided to authorise the Vice-Chancellor to constitute any committee, which may frame these policies as early as possible so that these can be debated and discussed for the final approval and implementation in the best academic interest of the university at his level.
The Senate meeting began with the appreciation of the recognition of two Panjab University alumni; Prof HS Bedi and Dr Jitender Kumar Bajaj, for being named by the Government of India for the Padma Shree award. He also congratulated various faculty members who got grants from different agencies in the past month. The Senate meeting was attended by around 60 members.
Prof SK Tomar, DUI, also apprised all the members about the upcoming NAAC committee visit. He stated that the university had to constitute nine different policies before the NAAC visit to meet one of the important criteria.
Panjab University (PU) has earlier announced that it has decided to reopen the campus for more students, once the semester examinations end on March 3. As per the announcement made by the varsity, all the departments will reopen in offline mode for all postgraduate and final-year undergraduate (UG) students.
