Punjabi University postpones all semester exams amid COVID surge till January 15

In wake of COVID-19 cases and its variant Omicron in the state, Punjabi University has announced that it has decided to postpone the examinations for all the courses until January 15. The decision has been taken after the state government had imposed curbs to check the spread of COVID-19.

While the University claimed that it has all the facilities required to conduct the examinations while adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines, the decision was taken keeping in mind the rise in number of COVID cases.

Many students have been protesting against the offline examinations and were demanding the postponement of the examination until the situation of COVID-19 gets better.

“Only a few students were supposed to take the exams. However, the University has decided to postpone all the pending exams as per the orders of the district administration,” the University official said.

Meanwhile, a group of teachers has also staged a protest on campus demanding the implementation of the UGC 7th pay commission. The protest that was started on November 30, also led to the postponement of semester exams by Punjabi University in December. The protesting teachers claimed that the UGC 7th Pay Commission has been implemented across the country except in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

Earlier this week, the All-University Teachers' Association (AUTA) Himachal Pradesh also demanded that the 7th pay scale should be implemented immediately in the state. During a virtual meeting of AUTA, the association demanded to implement the pay scales for the college and university teachers as per the recommendations made by the UGC pay commission.
