In a written reply to Kanta Kardam, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment A. Narayanaswamy informed that the a total of 438 Scheduled Caste students are sent to study abroad during the last five years.

In a written reply to Kanta Kardam, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment A. Narayanaswamy informed that the a total of 438 Scheduled Caste students are sent to study abroad during the last five years. Kardam asked (a) the details of the number of schemes being implemented by Government to provide scholarship to the Scheduled Castes students for studying abroad; and (b) the number of Scheduled Caste students sent to study abroad during the last five years along with the details of funds allocated for these schemes during the said period?

The ministry in a written reply shared the data and informed, “(a) So far as the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment is concerned, it implements the Central-Sector scheme, namely National Overseas Scholarship, to facilitate low-income students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans category to obtain higher education viz., Masters degree or Ph.D courses by studying abroad.”

It further added (b) The number of Scheduled Castes' students sent to study abroad under NOS scheme of DoSJE during the last five years, and the details of the funds allocated during the said period are as under:-
