The Central Government of India has approved in-principle 10% reservation to the Agniveer in the Central Armed Police Forces. The approval was given for the post of Constable (General Duty) in CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
As per the reply given in the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai, the candidates will who will be recruited in the Defence Forces as Agniveer will be eligible to get a reservation of 10 per cent horizontal reservation for the Constable (General Duty) post in CAPFs and Assam Rifles. This reservation will be available to the candidates who served as Agniveer in the defence forces and completed their four-year term.
The reservation was not provided for the Assistant Commandant post in the CAPFs. Agniveers will be eligible for the Constable posts only. The Constable (GD) in the CAPFs are recruited through the Constable GD exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). SSC GD exam is a three-stage exam where the candidates are required to clear the written exam (conducted as Computer Based-Test) followed by the Physical Standard Test (PST)/Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The PST/PET is qualifying only. The qualified candidates will be called for document verification (DV). After SSC GD DV, the candidates will be recommended for service.
The first batch of Agniveers will come out of service that is four years from now. Therefore, this reservation benefit will be available to them if they apply for the exam.
