Meghalaya’s Directorate of Educational Research & Training will soon announce the exam dates for the Meghalaya Teachers' Eligibility Test (MTET) 2021 examination, as per the state Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.
As per the media reports, the minister stated that the Meghalaya TET 2021 notification will be released in the coming weeks for conducting the examination. The statement came as a reply to a query during the Question Hour as the state legislators expressed their concerns over non-availability of qualified teachers in over hundred primary schools including 80 in Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills, 20-30 in Rambrai-Jyrngam area of West Khasi Hills district and 10 in Mawsynram area under East Khasi Hills.
The minister also requested the Meghalaya government to permit teachers, without MTET qualification, to teach in schools located in the border areas. In such schools, students are mostly taught in their mother tongue, Garo language.
MTET Exam Details
The Meghalaya TET exam is conducted by the Directorate of Educational Research & Training (DERT). Candidates who qualify the MTET exam become eligible for the post of primary and middle school teachers in the state.
Candidates who want to become Classes 1 to 5 teachers appear for MTET Paper I and those who want to teach Classes 6 to 8 appear for Paper II. Candidates who wish to teach Classes 1-8 have the option of appearing in both the papers.
