SC asks Centre to explain fixing number of women candidates at 19 in NDA for 2022 exam
In January, the Supreme Court of India has asked the Centre to explain why despite its orders, the intake of women candidates in National Defence Academy for the year 2022 has been restricted to 19, the figure same as last year. It has also asked the centre to place the figures on record about the total number of candidates including women who have appeared in NDA 2021.
No Separate Squadrons for Newly Recruited Women Cadets in NDA
Women cadets passing out of NDA will be granted permanent commission from their service academies. The first batch of women cadets joining NDA will be housed together with the male cadets. They will be sharing the premises of the squadrons with the male cadets. The first batch of 19 women candidates will join NDA in June. This includes 10 cadets in the Army, six in the Air Force and three in the Navy.
In Air Force, women candidates can join all streams, including the fighter pilot. In the Army, women will join in the support arms and services, Infantry, Armored and Artillery are not opened yet. In the Navy, women candidates will be commissioned into all streams except submarine and warships.
