The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has taken over the recruitment of Sub Inspector posts in the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The RPF-SI recruitment till now was done by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) under the Ministry of Railways.
Starting in 2025, RPF-SI and RPF Constable recruitment will be held annually to ensure faster and more transparent hiring, thus will be handled by SSC now. The SSC's standardized process aligns RPF recruitment with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) norms, offering regular opportunities for eligible candidates.
As per the official announcement, major changes in the railway recruitment are like the exam conducting body has been changed with SSC now taking over RPF recruitment, replacing RRB. Exam frequency changes and now there will be annual exams for SI and Constable posts.
The RPF SI selection process consists of Computer Based Test (CBT), which is of 90 minutes duration. It is of 120 marks testing General Awareness, Arithmetic, and General Intelligence and Reasoning ability of candidates.
It is followed by Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT), under which candidates passing CBT test undergoes fitness tests and physical measurements (e.g., height, chest). Once qualified candidates have to submit original documents for verification.
Later a final medical check by CAPF Medical Officers or Grade-I Government Medical Officers is done to ensure eligibility.
The Ministry of Railways in its notification has introduced RPF Revised Recruitment Rules 2025, bringing some changes like in age limit of Constable (Executive) it has been changed from 18–25 years to 18–23 years.
Minimum height for male candidates has been increased to 170 cm (from 165 cm), chest measurements set at 80 cm (unexpanded) and 85 cm (expanded).
As per reports, these changes have been introduced to modernize RPF recruitment, aligning it with CAPF standards and ensuring a streamlined, transparent process for candidates across India.
