The student have held protests in Dehradun and other parts of the state demanding cancellation of the exam, a CBI probe, and stringent punishment for those involved.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that state government will hand over Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) paper leak case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation.

CM Dhami's assurance came after days of student protests in state capital demanding a fair probe into the irregularities in the graduate-level recruitment exam held on September 21.

Dhami, while addressing the agitating students, said the government would not allow malpractice in recruitment tests. “The SIT is already investigating, but respecting your demand, we are recommending a CBI inquiry. Strict action will be taken under the 2023 anti-copying law,” he said. The statement followed eight consecutive days of demonstrations across Dehradun and other districts.

The case has already led to several arrests. Khalid Malik, alleged to be the mastermind, was taken into custody along with his sister Sabia. Authorities have also arrested Hakam Singh Rawat, who was previously linked to the 2021 paper leak, and other associates. Investigators revealed that three pages of exam paper were leaked and circulated on social media ahead of the test.

The student have held protests in Dehradun and other parts of the state demanding cancellation of the exam, a CBI probe, and stringent punishment for those involved.

On the other hand till now, two police officials deployed at an exam center in Haridwar and an assistant professor accused of helping candidates with leaked questions have been suspended.

Similar cases of paper leak were reported in 2021 and 2023, denting credibility of recruitment exams in the state.

Although CM's announcement of a CBI probe has calmed tensions to some extent, however aspirants are still demanding cancellation of the exam.
