The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced about the re-examination for UGC NET June 2026 for those candidates who appeared for English, Commerce and Sociology subjects. This decision was made after an expert committee found several factual, typographical, translation and language-related errors in the three above mentioned subject papers along with the repeated questions asked from the previous year examinations. It is mentioned in the official notification that candidates will not have to pay any additional examination fee for the UGC NET re-test.ย

As per the information bulletin, there is no end period for the validity of the qualifying certificate of Assistant Professor.
UGC NET is conducted at national level by the National Testing Agency for those candidates who want to become assistant professor or researcher. It is important for a candidate to meet the eligibility criteria including the education qualification, age limits, etc. which vary depending on whether they are applying for the Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). There is no upper age limit to apply for the Assistant Professor positions. But for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the maximum age limit is 30 years as of June 1 of the exam year. There is also an ahe relaxation provided to the candidates from reserved categories including OBC, SC and ST
No, candidates need not to submit a fresh application for UGC NET re-exam unless NTA mainly instructs them to do so. As per the official notification, NTA clarified that no additional examination fee will be charged from the candidates appearing for the UGC NET re-exam for English, Commerce and Sociology. Further, candidates details of city, centre, and admit card details will be notified separately on the official website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.ย
What are the UGC NET 2026 result rules for English, Commerce and Sociology?
As per the official notification, NTA clarified about how qualifying candidates will be determined after the re-examination. For the eligibility of Assistant Professor, the number of candidates qualified shall be equal to 6% of the candidates who appeared in the test conducted in June 2026, or the retest, whichever is higher.
Also, the subject-wise allocation for the remaining three subjects for JRF, Eligibility for Assistant Professor and eligibility for admission to PhD, will be done as mentioned in the Information Bulletin. After the retest, the numbers that will be allocated for each subject shall not be reduced under any circumstances.ย
