NIRF Rankings 2026 are awaited by candidates and institutes. Candidates can check expected release date, ranking categories, key NIRF rankings parameters, 2025 data and how students can check online here
NIRF Rankings 2026 Awaited: Ministry of Education (MoE) is expected to release NIRF rankings for all 17 categories anytime soon. While exact release date for NIRF rankings 2026 edition has not been officially confirmed, students can use 2025 data to understand parameters that are likely to shape this year's rankings. NIRF rankings 2026 are important for students comparing IITs, NITs, universities, medical colleges, management institutes, law schools and other higher education institutions.
National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) evaluates higher education institutions on multiple parameters instead of relying only on academic reputation. This framework covers Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception.
NIRF Ranking 2025: IIT Madras Led Overall List
In 2025 overall NIRF rankings, IIT Madras retained top position in overall category, while other leading IITs, IISc Bengaluru and AIIMS Delhi featured prominently in the list. The official NIRF database provides institute-wise scores along with parameter-wise performance.
It must be noted that NIRF ranking is that overall score is not based on a single factor. For example, an institute can have a strong teaching score but a comparatively lower perception score, while another institution may perform better in research or graduation outcomes. This makes parameter-wise score important part of NIRF data that students should check instead of looking only at final rank.
What NIRF Actually Measures?
NIRF methodology broadly divides institutional performance into five areas
| Parameter |
Focus |
|---|---|
| Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) |
Faculty, student strength, infrastructure and learning resources |
| Research & Professional Practice (RPC) |
Research publications, patents and professional practices |
| Graduation Outcomes (GO) |
Student graduation rates, placements and higher education outcomes |
| Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) |
Representation, diversity and accessibility |
| Perception |
Reputation among academic and other stakeholders |
NIRF Engineering Ranking Shows Why Overall Rank is Not Enough?
NIRF Engineering Ranking 2025 official data provides separate scores for TLR, RPC, GO, OI and perception. NIT Rourkela had a 2025 engineering score of 66.62 and ranked 13th. Its parameter scores included 83.55 in TLR, 59.25 in RPC, 76.89 in GO, 61.74 in OI and 22.37 in perception.
Similarly, NIT Karnataka, Surathkal scored 64.59 and ranked 17th, with strong graduation-outcome score of 78.11. NIT Calicut, ranked 21st, recorded 79.12 in graduation outcomes, while its research and professional-practice score was 40.00.
NIRF University Rankings: Scores Can Vary
NIRF University Ranking 2025 also shows considerable variation in institutional scores. The official database provides both overall score and individual parameter scores, allowing students to understand why institution occupies a particular position. King George's Medical University had a university-category score of 53.13 and ranked 50th, while University of Jammu scored 53.01 and ranked 51st.
