The UGC has advised students and parents to verify an institution’s recognition status before seeking admission.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared Institute of Management and Engineering (IME), located at Kotla Mubarakpur in Delhi, a ‘fake university’. UGC notice states that IME is neither established under any Central or State Act nor recognised under Sections 2(f) or 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

With this addition total number of fake universities identified by the UGC has risen to 22, although no updated consolidated list has been released recently. The earlier list of 21 fake universities remains available on UGC official website.

According to Commission Notice, IME has been misleading students by offering degree-level programmes without authorisation, and any certificate or qualification from institution has no academic or professional validity.
