IIT Kanpur, BHU and CSJMU Hold Workshop

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur organised a workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education in collaboration with Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur. The workshop was organised by Centre for Educational Research and Teaching Excellence (CERTEX), IIT Kanpur, to discuss opportunities, challenges and emerging practices associated with integration of AI into higher education.

IIT Kanpur Workshop Focuses on AI in Teaching and Assessment

The workshop aimed to encourage educators to exchange ideas and experiences on effective and responsible use of AI tools in academic settings. Although teachers are increasingly using AI in their individual teaching practices, the approaches and applications vary across institutions. The initiative sought to explore ways to make AI adoption in higher education more systematic and effective.

The discussions focused on three key themes: AI in the Classroom, Assessment in the Age of AI, and Ethics in AI. The programme included two open-mic sessions of 45 minutes each, followed by a one-hour panel discussion. These sessions provided participants with opportunities to share their experiences, discuss concerns and present innovative ideas on incorporating AI into teaching and learning.

Educators Discuss Responsible Use of AI in Higher Education

The workshop witnessed participation from educators representing diverse academic disciplines. The multidisciplinary gathering enabled participants to examine AI applications from different educational and pedagogical perspectives. CERTEX, IIT Kanpur, organised the initiative to strengthen collaboration and knowledge-sharing among higher education institutions as they respond to the growing influence of AI.
