Know that UPCATET courses are much broader than one can imagine. It not only comprises BSc agriculture, but also has courses like Horticulture, Forestry, Community Science and others. Students also have a much broader career option and can choose any for their future.
Many students in Uttar Pradesh assume a career in agriculture means a BSc Agriculture degree. The Uttar Pradesh Combined Agriculture and Technology Entrance Test (UPCATET) shows the field is much wider.
Clearing the exam opens admission to BSc Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, BFSc, BVSc & AH, Community Science, BTech Biotechnology and BTech Agricultural Engineering, among other programmes. Dairy Technology and Food Technology at BTech level are also covered, so students who prefer an engineering or technology route are not left out. At the postgraduate level, the test leads to MSc, MVSc, MTech, MFSc and MBA in Agri Business, along with PhD admissions.
Eligibility depends on the UOCATET courses. BSc Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry accept students from 10+2 with the agriculture group, PCM, PCB or PCMB. BVSc & AH requires 10+2 with PCB or PCMB, English and 50 percent marks. BSc Community Science is open only to girls. Age limits also apply, and candidates should check the cut-off date in the official notification.
Admissions are made through four state agricultural universities: BUAT Banda, NDUAT Ayodhya, CSAUK Kanpur and SVPUAT Meerut. The test is organised by these universities on rotation, and seats are filled through counselling after the result.
For students, the range of options matters. A student from a physics and maths background can look at Agricultural Engineering or Food Technology. A biology student may prefer veterinary science, fisheries or biotechnology. Each path leads to different careers, from farm management and agri-business to food processing, research and animal healthcare.
Aspirants should compare syllabus, eligibility, seat availability and career scope before applying. They should also read the official brochure and notification on the UPCATET portal, since dates and rules change each year.
