Conducting exams online for higher classes not possible: Karnataka Deputy CM

Karnataka Deputy CM has ruled out the possibility of conducting online exams this year.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan has ruled out the possibility of online examinations for higher classes. After a meeting in view of the exponential increase in COVID-19 cases across the nation, Narayan, who holds the higher education portfolio, told the media reporters that there was a demand from a section of students and parents to conduct the tests online. "It will not be possible to conduct the online exams in the present system. Examinations will be conducted only in offline mode through a few deemed universities may be able to conduct exams online. This will not be possible in the government set-up," he added. The timetable for degree, post-graduation, diploma, and engineering examinations has been affected a bit due to the ongoing bus strike, the Minister said adding that the exams would resume immediately after the strike ends.

 He also mentioned that physical classes would begin once the pandemic is brought under control, and the students can attend physically or through online mode.

Meanwhile, some states have postponed the dates for the upcoming board examinations while official announcement from other boards is still awaited. Students have been trending  #CancelBoardExam2021 tag on social media platform Twitter in the hopes of postponing or cancelling CBSE board exams. Prominent politicians such as Arvind Kejriwal, Varsha Gaikwad, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have been in support of the students.
