GATE 2022 Exam: The growing cases of COVID-19 across the country has forced students to opine that the GATE exam should be postponed. The same has been reflected in a survey conducted by Shiksha.com among over 1,000 aspirants recently.

In the survey, more than 79 per cent of students opined that the GATE 2022 should be postponed as the third wave is a great risk for students as well as their families. In the same survey, over 14 per cent of students also said that there is no need to postpone the exam and it should be conducted as per the schedule. Among the participants, more than 6 per cent of students suggested that only fully vaccinated students should give the exam.

Recently, over 23,000 students have joined a petition to postpone the GATE 2022 exam. In this petition, students referred to a survey conducted by IIT Kharagpur on COVID-19 that suggested the peak of this wave will be in the first week of February. This is exactly the time when the GATE exam is scheduled to be conducted. Students also said in the petition that the period will be of high risk of getting infected with the virus.

Along with this, students also took it to Twitter to raise their voices against conducting the exam as per the schedule. Some students demanded to postpone the exam while some asked the exam conducting authority to break their silence on whether the exam will be conducted or not.

As far as COVID-19 cases are concerned, there is a high surge in it. On January 19, there were more than 3.17 lakh cases while on January 20, there are more than 3.47 lakh cases in the country. With such a situation, it will be of imminent risk to conduct the GATE 2022 for students.
