The Odisha government has decided to start physical classes in technical universities, engineering and professional colleges, polytechnics, diploma institutions, and ITIs for all students of postgraduate (PG), undergraduate (UG), diploma, and ITI programmes from September 6.

An official notice read, “This is due to the improvement in the Covid-19 situation in the state.” The Skill Development and Technical Education Department has asked all institutions to begin physical classes following all Covid-19 protocols such as sanitisation and disinfection of all classrooms, hostels, and laboratories as the government guidelines. The department had earlier opened classes for the final year students of all the UG, PG, and diploma courses in August. Now, it will reopen for the rest of the students. 

SOP guidelines for conduct of physical classes 

  • Physical classes should be held in regular manner to cover all chapters of the syllabus irrespective of coverage of some chapters through online mode. 
  • Whenever possible, the physical classroom teaching should be recorded and shared with students who are absent. 
  • Teachers/staff/students residing in containment zone need not come to universities/colleges. 
  • Face mask should be mandatory. 
  • Frequent hand wash/hand sanitisation should be ensured. 
  • Social distancing should be maintained in classrooms, libraries, laboratories, etc. Crowded classes should be divided in batches and teaching hours in a day can be extended. 

The state government has already resumed schools for students of Class 9 for the 2021-22 academic session adhering to COVID-19 protocols. Both government and private schools have reopened and classes are being conducted from 9 am to 12.30 pm.
