UGC directs HEIs to send nominations for Sardar Patel National Unity Award

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all the higher education institutions in the country to make nominations for the Sardar Patel National Unity Award. The award is the highest civilian award in the field of contribution to the unity and integrity of India. The nominations or recommendations can be sent online on the official portal designed for this purpose, i.e. awards.gov.in.

All the HEIs who wish to send their nominations must note that the last date for Sardar Patel National Unity Award is July 31. “All the higher educational institutions (HEIs) and its affiliated colleges, institutions are requested to bring this to the notice of all concerned for making suitable nominations and also disseminate this to your affiliated colleges,” the UGC stated in official notification. 

"The nominations for the Award should contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the portal including a citation in narrative form, mentioning the distinguished and exceptional achievements or service of the person or institution to promote the cause of national unity and integrity," UGC said.

The Award will be announced on the occasion of National Unity Day which will be celebrated on October 31. “The Award seeks to recognize the notable and inspiring contributions made by the citizens or institutions of India to promote the cause of national unity and integrity and to reinforce the value of a strong and united India. All citizens of India without distinction of religion, caste, gender, place or birth, age or occupation and any institution, organization are eligible for the award," the UGC further stated.
