UGC extends deadline to submit feedback on draft higher educational qualification framework
The last date to submit the feedback/suggestion is now February 21, 2022. Earlier, the commission had sought feedback and suggestions on the draft from stakeholders by February 13, 2022.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the last date for sending feedback/suggestions on the Draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework (NHEQF). The last date is now February 21, 2022. Earlier, the commission had sought feedback and suggestions on the draft from stakeholders by February 13, 2022.
Released as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation, the draft framework was put in the public domain on January 31.
"The last date for seeking feedback/suggestions has been extended till 21 .02.2022. Feedback/suggestions may be sent at email: nepnheqf@gmail.com," the UGC said in a release.
Higher education institutes across the country will soon be brought to a new framework to assess students on a range of learning outcomes, including from job readiness to constitutional values, theoretical knowledge to technical skills. The NHEQF has set the most desired duration of undergraduate studies to be four years and has given it a fixed structure from which students may extract various certifications depending on the number of years of study. DTF has claimed that due to the orientation of the structure towards a 4-year research degree, the lower certifications – the Undergraduate Certificate and Undergraduate Diploma – will be mere paper degrees with no market value in terms of employability.
Further, students who graduate with a 3-year degree run the risk of being treated as drop-outs who lacked the ability to complete the full programme. The draft of IDP recommends for undergraduate courses a rise in the teacher-student ratio of (1:30) in Social Sciences, (1:25) in Sciences and (1:30) in Commerce/Management. The existing teacher-student ratio is (1:18) across these disciplines. Further, there is no mention of any teacher-student ratio for Humanities.
