The University Grants Commission has announced that it has extended the last date for submission of thesis for terminal MPhil and PhD. The extension has been given by UGC for six months may also be granted for submitting evidence of publication and presentation in two conferences. However, the fellowship tenure will remain up to five years only.
"In continuation to UGC Public Notice dated March 16, 2021 and keeping in view the larger interest of the research scholars, a further extension of six months beyond December 31, 2021; i.e. until June 30, 2022, for submission of the thesis by MPhil/PhD students may be granted by the Universities. It is also notified that the extension for submission of M.Phil./Ph.D. thesis till June 2022 shall be applicable to all such students whose due date of submission of MPhil/ PhD thesis is on or before, June 30, 2022," stated the public notice issued by UGC.
Due to COVID-19, UGC had earlier extended the deadline twice before, keeping in view the larger interest of the research scholars.
In another recently released press release, the UGC has said that the Common Entrance Test (CET) for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in central universities may be conducted from the academic session 2022-2023 through the National Testing Agency (NTA). The UGC has also directed all the higher educational institutions in the country to make provision for special examinations for the cadets who are enrolled in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) as they had missed their semester exams because of Republic Day training camps every year.
