UGC Revised Guidelines 2020 for "Students with Backlog" RELEASED!

According to the revised guidelines released by UGC, the final-year exams that were supposed to be conducted in the month of July will now be conducted by September-end.

The University Grant Commission released the much-awaited revised guidelines for university and college exams. According to the revised guidelines released by UGC, the final-year exams that were supposed to be conducted in the month of July will now be conducted by September-end. Considering the final-year examination as most important, UGC decided not to cancel the exams. While many states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra etc., already cancelled their final-year University and College exams, UGC permitted colleges to conduct exams for the final-year students. The official notice released by UGC also states that Colleges and Universities can conduct final-year exams in online, offline or blended mode, as per their convenience. 

UGC Guidelines 2020 for Students with Backlog

Talking about the final-year students with backlogs, the UGC guideline states, “The students of terminal semester/ final year students having backlog should compulsorily be evaluated by conducting examinations in offline (pen & paper)/ online/ blended (online + offline) mode as per feasibility and suitability.”

The notice further states, “In case a student of the terminal semester/ final year is unable to appear in the examination conducted by the University for whatsoever the reason(s) may be, he/she may be given opportunity to appear in special examinations for such course(s)/ paper(s), which may be conducted by the university as and when feasible, so that the student is not put to any inconvenience/ disadvantage. The above provision shall be applicable only for the current academic session 2019-20 as a one-time measure.”

The Human Resource and Development Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank shared the notice released by UGC regarding the revised examination guidelines 2020. Sharing the official notice released by UGC, the HRD Minister said, “The UGC has revisited its earlier guidelines related to university examinations. In view of the safety, career progression and placements of the students and their larger interests, after consulting @HMOIndia and @MoHFW_INDIA, it has been decided that…” 

The minister further added, “Intermediate semester students will be evaluated based on internal assessment (as per earlier issued guidelines).” “Evaluation of the terminal semester students which was to be done through examinations in the month of July, now their examinations will be conducted by the end of September-2020, following the guidelines laid down by @MoHFW_INDIA for #COVIDー19,” Mr. Pokhriyal said in his third tweet.
