UP: Lucknow schools get closed amid heavy rains alert

As per reports, in Lucknow, schools have been closed today, September 16, 2022, due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh. The schools have been closed for students up to class 12.

According to the orders of the District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar, schools affiliated with all Boards, up to class 12 will remain closed on Friday following the heavy downpour and water logging in many parts of the city, as reported by Zee News.

The order is for all schools in urban and rural areas. School managments have been asked to inform about the school closure to parents and students through their respective WhatsApp groups. Many districts in the state experienced torrential rainfall in the past 24 hours. After Lucknow, schools in Sitapur and Unnao are also closed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh for the next two days. The weather agency has also forecasted heavy rainfall for Bihar, Sikkim, Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and ghat areas of Maharashtra.

IMD tweet reads, "Fairly widespread/ widespread light/moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall & thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh during 15th-17th and over West Madhya Pradesh on 15th September, 2022."

As per reports, nine people, including three kids, died after the boundary wall of an Army enclave collapsed due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Friday.
