Uttarakhand government on May 10, 2021, announced summer vacations in schools until June 30, in wake of the ongoing pandemic situation and devastatingly increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases. While talking to the media, State Education Secretary R Sundaram said, "In view of the increasing cases of Covid-19 in Uttarakhand, summer vacation has been declared till 30 June 2021 in all government, non-government, private, day boarding schools run in the state.” He further added, "During this period, if schools wish to conduct extra classes, they are allowed to do so via online mode of teaching only.” Uttarakhand's Department of Education on Friday announced summer vacation in all higher education institutes from May 7-June 12, in view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

The government made this clear that the order is applicable for all private and government universities in the state. The minister also clarified that in order to continue the teaching-learning process, the varsities, however, can continue with online classes. The decision came following the orders released by the Education Ministry. The Ministry of Education asked all centrally funded institutions including IITs, NITs, IIITs, Central Universities, etc. to postpone all offline exams scheduled for May. It also stated that the Universities can go on with the online examination as per the schedule.

Earlier, the state education department announced that all colleges and universities will remain closed from May 3 until further orders. In wake of the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Uttarakhand government extended the 'Corona curfew' in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts till May 10.

Meanwhile, other states such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, etc. also announced to the closure of schools, colleges and other educational institutions amid the ongoing pandemic situation.
