The education minister said he believes that Karnataka, with its 70 million population, is where the impact of NEP will unfold.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the main challenge before the central and state government is to bring together 170 million children and youth through National Education 2020 into mainstream education. He was speaking at the launch of Karnataka's implementation plan for NEP 2020. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the state’s chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and K Kasturirangan, the former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who headed the committee that framed the NEP 2020.

With accessibility, affordability, equity, quality as its four pillars, the NEP will help India to create a new global order, he said. Pradhan further said that he expects Karnataka to be foremost in implementing the NEP policy. "The population of students in the age group of 3 to 23 is 520 million today. If we put together the population of students in anganwadis, government and private sector schools, higher education institutions, the population is around 350 million. This means, another 170 million youngsters are yet to come inside the framework. That is the primary challenge of the NEP,” the Minister said.

“Every year, 25 million new population is getting added to the age-group who are the natural claimants and beneficiaries of NEP," he said.

The education minister further said that he believes that Karnataka, with its 70 million population, is where the impact of NEP will unfold.

“India is a knowledge society and Karnataka is the epicentre of Knowledge ecosystem. The challenge is how to convert India from a knowledge society into a Knowledge economy. I hope Karnataka will be successful in that direction,” said Pradhan. Karnataka’s status as India’s information technology (IT) hub will help in the NEP framework.
