No, you cannot get direct admission to the BA programme at Modern College. The college follows a structured online merit system for all admissions. Every general category applicant must fill out an online merit form through the Vriddhi portal, and seats are given out in order based on Class 12 marks.

The only exception where the standard online merit lists can be avoided involves a specific preference system or institutional seats. For instance, in-house students who completed their Class 12 studies directly at Modern College receives first preference during the initial seat allocation rounds.

While Modern College is a private institute run by the Progressive Education Society, it works as a government-aided private college for traditional courses like BA. This means the college receives financial grants and salary support from the government of Maharashtra, allowing them to keep the base tuition fees heavily subsidized and budget-friendly for regular divisions. Additionally, because the college is permanently affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), it strictly follows the university and state-regulated fee structures rather than charging private rates.

To graduate with a BA degree from Modern College, candidates must earn a total of 138.5 academic credits. This credit system ensures that students complete a well-rounded study of both theory and practical modules throughout their three years of study. An internship is also included in this curriculum and is a mandatory part of the final year. During the last two semesters, students must complete either a compulsory internship or project work to gain real-world experience. This training gives students 1.5 credits per semester, adding up to 3 compulsory credits that count directly toward their total graduation requirement.

BA students at Modern College primarily have access to the MahaDBT state scholarship portal schemes. Eligible students can apply for the Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship or Freeship plans if they belong to reserved categories like SC, ST, OBC, VJNT, or SBC. For general, EWS, or open-category candidates, the Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Shulkh Shishyavrutti Scheme (EBC) provides partial tuition fee waivers based on specific family income limits.

Eligibility is open to any candidate who has successfully completed their high school education. Applicants must have passed their Class 12 examination from a recognised national or state board. The college accepts students from all academic backgrounds including, Arts, Science, and Commerce, as long as English was a passing subject in their qualifying exam. Selection does not involve an entrance test and is based entirely on the aggregate percentage of Class 12. However, higher scores are typically necessary for competitive specializations like Psychology due to limited seats.
