To pass the CBSE 12th board exams 2026, students must secure a minimum of 33 per cent in each subject including theory, practicals, and internal assessments. For subjects with practicals, students must pass in both theory and practical separately. Overall students must achieve at least 33 per cent in each subject.

In case of a tie, all the students getting the same score and grade will be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will go with the larger. Method of grading will be used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500.

In respect of subjects where total number of candidates passing in a subject is less than 500, the grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects.

Short answer — yes, it's possible in some cases, but it depends on the branch and year.

Thapar fills:

  • Major seats through JEE Main

  • Some seats through 12th PCM merit (board marks category)

If your PCM percentage is strong (usually 90%+ for safer side), you can compete in the board merit category. But for top branches like CSE/COE, it's still very competitive even through boards.

So yes, you can apply without JEE — but your 12th marks need to be good.
