A-1 Top 1/8th of the passed candidates

A-2 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates

B-1 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates

C-2 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates

If you fail to clear CBSE 12th exam in one or two subjects, then apply for compartment exam. Failing in more than two, you need to retake the exam again.

If you fail in CBSE Class 12th exam in one or two subjects, they are placed in Compartment category. Students can retake those exams in July/August to pass. Failing in more than two subjects results in a 'Essential Repeat' requiring them to repeat the academic year and retake all exams.

CBSE Class 12 marking scheme is divides subjects into 100 marks. 80 marks are allotted for theory paper and 20 mark for internal assessment, Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) carries a 70-mark theory and 30-mark practical. Exams carries competency-based questions (50%), MCQs (20%), and short/long answers (30%), with a 33% passing mark requirement
