Mains exam is a subjective exam that takes place after prelims exam. You need to qualify prelims exam for giving Mains exam. Mains exam consists of total of 9 papers. 4 papers are of general studies, 2 papers are of optional subjects, 1 paper essay, 1 paper English language and 1 paper is of any Indian language. Duration of all papers is 3 hours. Language paper will be of 300 marks each and rest every paper will be of 250 marks. In language paper, you need to score qualifying marks only that is 33%.

The syllabus for UPSC Civil Services (IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, etc.) is the same for any graduate. There are 3 levels in the selection process starting with the Prelims, then Mains and finally Personality test. You may refer this year's (2019) notification for civil service exams from the official website of UPSC- https://upsc.gov.in/examinations/

Hello,
According to me, all three main subjects should be necessary Maths Physics and Chemistry, you should have to prepare with all three main subjects to attempt IAS exam.
