The total hostel fees at S. D. College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET) for first-year students is Rs. 58,750. This includes a hostel fee of Rs. 30,000 and mess charges, which are calculated on a dividing basis (no profit-no loss) and settled at the end of the year.

One major criticism of the institution concerns the insufficient teaching staff for some departments specially those performing distance education programs.
