Both courses are equally good, and both have huge scope further. But, I think mechatronics is a course, which will be required by all the branches and naval ones are limited to only marine field. Also, mechatronics combines AI and robotics, which will be the most relied fields in future.

Yes, you can join here for B.E lateral entry for mechanical engineering.
You have to appear for TNEA exam
Or,
Candidate must have passed Diploma in Engineering/Technology from a recognized board with minimum 55%.
(For SC/ ST: - Candidate must have passed Diploma in Engineering/Technology from a recognized board.)
Or,
Candidate must have passed B.Sc. from a recognized college/ university with minimum 55% and must have studied mathematics at graduation level or 10+2 level.

Do not do Bachelor's degree through distance. Distance programs are suitable for those people who already have a decent paying job or have family commitments, etc. Regular degree is always preferred by recruiters.
