When it comes to choosing between B.Tech entrance exam and direct admission, it completely depends on the requirement of the candidate. If you are not sure of securing admission in top B,Tech college and branch with your entrance exam rank or score, it is advisable to go for direct admission.
However, direct admission in B.Tech is possible only in private colleges or deemed universities. In its the latest placement season, the International Management Institute in Kolkata witnessed 100% placements, with the highest package standing at 20 LPA and the average of top 50 percentile students at 8.07 LPA. That being said, if I were in your place, I'd choose IMI-Kolkata, regardless of its placement record. The reason being, many other factors come into consideration during education and placements. No, admissions at the International Management Institute in Kolkata are of two types - Self Sponsored and/or company-sponsored. The institute creates a cutoff list for all its programs for the various categories - General, Sc/ST/OBC, etc. Candidates are shortlisted only on the basis of their academic records, CAT/XAT or GMAT score, and work experience. The latter is optional. You're called for the subsequent GD, What, and interview process only if you clear the cutoff in your respective category.
