To get admission in the Institute of Science and Technology for B.E/ B.Tech you must appear for its entrance exam after meeting the eligibility criteria ( Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with physics and mathematics as compulsory subjects ) . The most prominent entrance exam for IST is the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination ( WBJEE), whose application window generally starts by January or February of every year. The Institute of Science and Technology (IST) is currently accepting applications for the 2025 batch. Admissions in the institute are strictly based on WBJEE, AIJEE, or JELET ranks. The WBJEE has been conducted on 27th April, and results are likely to be announced in June. Whereas for the lateral entry way, the exam under JELET is scheduled for June 15, 2025.

During the Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science and Technology BE/BTech cutoff 2024, the last-round closing ranks ranged between 621160 and 1203627 for the General AI category students. Of all the BE/BTech specialisations, the one that faced fierce competition was B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering. The first round cutoff rank for the same stood at 621160.
