The main prerequisite for admission to GCETTS, Serampore's B.E./B.Tech programme is a valid WBJEE score for regular seats via centralised counselling. The All India (AI) quota which takes into account JEE Main ranks (e.g 13372–35395 for SC category in 2024), allows candidates with JEE Main scores to apply. Direct entry may be permitted by management quota or open seats subject to eligibility (10+2 with 45% in PCM 40% for reserved categories), and additional fees. Diploma holders can apply for lateral admission through JELET.

Founded in 1908, the Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology (GCETTS), Serampore, is a governmental, not private, college. It is run by the West Bengal government and is affiliated with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). It has also received approval from the AICTE.
