NIELIT provides Protsahan Puraskar Scheme for SC/ST/physically handicapped and female students studying NIELIT O/A/B/C level courses. Below is the criteria for availing the scheme:

• Aspirants must clear the papers in the first attempt
• The income of the parents of the student from all sources should not be more than INR 2.50 LPA

Candidates applying for MSc or PG diploma course have to pay an application fee of INR 1,000 + 12% GST (INR 500 + 12% GST for SC/ ST). For O/ A/ B/ C level programmes, the application fee is INR 500. Aspirants can pay the application fee via any of the online payment modes such as CSC-SPV, Online (transfer, credit card, debit card, net banking), NEFT and RTGS.

NIELIT Kolkata shortlists candidates for most of the courses based on their merit in the last qualifying exam. The institute conducts an entrance exam for admission to non-formal courses. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Exam, or NIELIT Exam, is conducted at the national level for admission to 'O' (Foundation Level), 'A' (Advanced Diploma), 'B' (MCA Equivalent), and 'C' (MTech Level in Computer Science and Engineering) programmes.

2. B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration: Cutoff ranks generally range between 1656-10336 for general category students.

3. Other Courses: Specific cutoff ranks for BHMCT, Diploma, MBA/PGDM, etc., are determined annually based on various factors like the number of applicants and seat availability.

A total of 93 students were placed during the 2023 placement session. Earlier 53% of the eligible students were placed during on-campus placements 2022 and 30% of students were placed off-campus.
