If you're asking me to choose between LPU and Petroleum University (UPES), Dehradun, I wouldn't say there is one “best” option for everyone. It mainly depends on the engineering branch you want.

LPU has a pretty wide range of engineering programmes, from CSE, ECE and electrical to mechanical, civil, aerospace and AI-related specialisations. So there is more flexibility if you're still exploring your options.

One thing I would personally look at is how well the course keeps up with technology. AI is becoming part of almost every engineering field now, so learning how to use AI tools for coding, data analysis, design or problem-solving alongside the core subject can be useful. LPU has been adding AI-focused programmes and integrating AI into engineering education.

UPES, on the other hand, has a more specialised identity around areas such as energy, petroleum, aerospace and related engineering fields.

So rather than asking only “LPU or UPES? ”, I'd compare the specific branch, syllabus, fees, labs, internships and placement data for that branch.

If your interest is CSE/AI or you want a broader choice of engineering streams, LPU is definitely one option I'd keep on the list. If you're specifically interested in petroleum or energy-related engineering, UPES is worth looking at too.
