Yes, having a bachelor's degree in BSc Fashion Design is not mandatory to get admission to MSc in Fashion Design. You just need to have a relevant bachelor's degree from a recognised university. However, a BSc in Fashion Design would have been the best choice as a base education for your MSc Fashion Design studies.

In my opinion, a master's degree will definitely increase your salary potential and higher job position because a master's programme teaches advanced design techniques along with business skills, and sustainability practices. With internship programs, project and fieldwork, etc., a master's degree helps students make stronger portfolios and are ready for leadership roles.

A Master's in Fashion Design will not directly get you a government job, as most job opportunities are related to Textile Design and its allied industries. However, you can explore employment options in areas like textile research, government-run textile units, etc. Meanwhile, some government organizations that employ Design students include:

  • National Handloom Development Corporation
  • Ministry of Culture
  • Central Cottage Industries Corporation
  • Cotton Corporation of India Limited
  • Jute Corporation of India Limited
  • Handicrafts and Handlooms Export Corporation

No, you cannot join NIFT for a B.Des programme without taking the NIFT entrance exam; admission to the B.Des course at NIFT is strictly based on your performance in the NIFT entrance exam, which includes a Creative Ability Test (CAT) and a General Ability Test (GAT), followed by a Situation Test for shortlisted candidates.
