Eligibilty criteria to appear in GATE Aeronautical Engineering is Bachelors degree in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2/Post B.Sc./Post-Diploma). Therefore, you are eligible to seek Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering subjects in GATE after B.Tech Mechatronics.

GATE Score-All colleges prefer applicants with a GATE score. Colleges apart from the IITs, NITs, etc. at times conduct their own admission test, but it is highly recommended to appear for the GATE exams preference is always given to the GATE applicant.
Written Test- This test is conducted for students who do not appear for the GATE exam and are yet eligible to apply for M.Tech courses (basically admission to M.Tech without taking the GATE). Most colleges do not have a written test as a part of their admission process.
Interview Round- This round tests your technical skills, basics and concepts about the desired M.Tech course and a coup

You shouldn't change your line as you are an engineer then you should prefer M.Tech and many colleges have their own criteria for admission process. I would suggest Indo Global Group of Colleges to prefer as this college is in Chandigarh and has good infrastructure as well as placement assistance.

Anna University is the main conducting authority which organizes a state level entrance exam called as Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA). The application form will be available from the first week of May 2017. Some other university level entrance tests are SRMJEEE, AEEE, VITEEE, etc. Students can also apply for JEE Main for admission into engineering courses in Tamil Nadu. So, if you want to do engineering in Tamil Nadu start preparing for this entrance exams.
